1823: Rugby is said to have originated at Rugby School in Warwickshire, England, in 1823 when during a game of football, William Webb Ellis decided to pick up a ball and go with it. Although there is very little evidence to support this theory, the Rugby World Cup Trophy is now named after William Webb Ellis.

1828 - 1842: In 1828 – 1842, there was a rugby school that was created for players where in this timeframe, players were influenced by headmaster Thomas Arnold and many boys taught in this time were intrigued by the expansion of this game. Rugby football soon became one of the most significant sports in the promotion of English and, later, British imperial manliness (John N, July 28, 2023).
