Cesare Beccaria focused on criminal justice and was against the terrible punishments given to punishments at the time. Beccaria was also heavily against the death penalty, and how corrupt the justice/ court system was. His book, "On Crimes and Punishments", talked about his beliefs and observations on the justice system and how it should be changed.
