World War 1 (1 jan 1914 ano – 1 jan 1918 ano)

This was a war fought supposedly due to the assassination of Austro- Hungarian heir archduke Franz Ferdinand by a Serbian nationalist. However, it was escalated because of the growing nationalist movement. European powers sought the right to self-governance and colonization (ironically). These tensions culminated in the "war to end all wars." However, the unequal treaties and unfair terms at the end of the war exacerbated the tensions that led to world war 2.
