Enslaved people of African descent tilled the fields and tended the tables of the Americas for nearly 250 years. This was a system of pain, but a system of great economic significance. The trans-atlantic slave trade allowed slave owners to grow crops in conditions that quickly killed their workers, but import more quickly. It made enormous profit for the slave owners at the cost of African culture, and the lives of enslaved people. As a side result of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, people of African descent in the Americas created their own unique culture.
