Reign of the Delhi Sultanate (1 jan 1206 ano – 1 jan 1526 ano)
Descrição:
After the Afghan Mahmud of Ghazni began raids in India in the early 11th century, Islam was introduced into India, but due to the vicious nature of his raids, which frequently destroyed temples, few were incentivized to convert to Islam. However, his successors had more luck, and established the sultanate of Delhi. They had little power outside of Delhi, no permanent bureaucracy, and little power in a majority Hindu land. In the south, Hindu kingdoms of Vijayanagar and Chola ruled. The Delhi sultanate marked a period in which irrigation was greatly expanded. In addition, Indians began to make use of the Monsoon system with ships called dhows. Some blending of Hindu and Islamic tradition through Sufi mystics occured.
