Abbasid Caliphate (1 jan 750 ano – 1 jan 1258 ano)
Descrição:
The Abbasid empire, named for Abu al-Abbas, a descendant of Muhammad's uncle, who allied with Shias and non arabic muslims to overtake the Ummayad empire. The Abbasid empire was important because they didn't show favor to the aristocracy, and because the cosmopolitan Abbasid empire encouraged scholars to learn from all previous scholars. The empire did little militarily to expand, but Islam continued to spread by separate militant factions. The Abbasid empire began a slow decline in the ninth century due to arguments about succession. Provincial governors took advantage of this to set up their own states. Even before they were conquered by the Mongols in 1258, the Abbasid rulers were rulers in name only, with the empire being in fact controlled by the Saljuq turks, who introduced the word Sultan. Dar al-Islam/house of wisdom.
