-Along the eastern end of the north side, it was filled with wealthy, upper-class residents.
-1950’s: puerto ricans settled on the other side of north side where the living conditions were horrible
-In between the 2 sides, had a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial districts that spilled over onto one another.
-1951: Eugenia Rodríguez, mother of Young Lords leader José “Cha Cha” Jiménez, came with her family to Chicago. Mrs. Rodríguez remembered arriving to a one-room apartment. She recalled not sleeping at all that night after discovering the living conditions of their accommodations.
