The focus shifted away from overly dense textures of Renaissance polyphony, and
shifted to textures that were more harmonically vertical and homophonic
There was more focus on instrumental independence in vocal music.
The use of keyboard instruments became more and more necessary
Old style of Renaissance became referred to as stile antico or prima prattica, while the new style was called stile moderno or seconda prattica.
Almost all music contained basso continuo, and began to add texture of string ensembles, and other orchestral instruments.

Chorale

The madrigal was fading away at this point.
