Freedom of Expression and Privacy
[Yates v United States] (1957) said 1st amendment protected radical/revolutionary speech, even by communists, unless it was a ‘clear and present danger’ to safety of the country
[Engel v Vitale] (1962) said state laws requiring prayers/bible readings in public schools violated 1st amendment right to separation church/state
[Griswold v Connecticut] (1965) in recognition of right to privacy, state couldn’t prohibit use of contraceptives by adults (provided foundation for later cases est woman’s right to abortion)
