British mathematician known for his popular science writing and TV appearances, and for his work in the fields of group theory and number theory. Du Sautoy has made important contributions to the study of symmetry and group theory, including the development of the du Sautoy prime-counting function, which gives an estimate of the number of prime numbers up to a given value.
