Francisco Pizarro and his second-in-command Diego de Almagro, along with horses and 80 men, explored the Isthmus of Panama. However, they had many unsuccsessful fights with local tribes, and did not find any treasure. It was going to be difficult to persuade anyone to go on a second expedtion.
