Trajan: expanded, social and building programs. Domitian: worst emperor, cruel and unjust.
Julius Caesar: started the rise of the empire.
What:
The emperors was at top, then nobility and wealthy families, horse back riders, commoner and soldiers, freedmen, and lastly slaves.
Took land to gain power and wealth for the empire.
Known for taking inventions from other countries and improving them.
They hired many mercenaries for their army.
There were many civil wars and discourse.
Near the end the roman empire Constantine created the bible and made Christianity legal. Julian the next empire banned it, and he was the last pagan.
Farming was the largest part of the economy.
The "Pax Romana" was a very successful trade route.
Children of both sexes were taught in school by slaves. But women were excluded from later years of school.
When: 31 BCE-330 CE
Where: Most of Europe and some Africa and Asia.
Why: Why was the empire divided in two?
The emperor Diocletian decided it'd be easier to manage if they slit the empire in half.
End: They were being invaded by Germanic barbarian tribes. The empire thought it was too difficult to run that much land, and split in half in 330 CE. The eastern part became the Byzantine empire. The western part was conquered by the invaders.
Timely: Powerful and well respected among the countries. Advanced technology that was taken from other cultures.
Lasting: Advancement in science and philosophy. Also had Mussolini try to recreate during WW2.
