They were isolationist so they didn't want to expand.
End: In 371 they were conquered by the Thebans general Epaminondas. But they continued to live on in the Achaean league, losing power, until 192 when it was dissolved after losing the Laconian War.
Timely Impact:
Ended Athens democratic system. Controlled most of the city-states in Greece.
Lasting Impact:
A city in Greece was named Sparta and it still exists today. Created many military advancements such as the phalanx. It is depicted and remembered in movies today.
