Maji Maji War (1 jan 1905 ano – 1 jan 1907 ano)
Descrição:
One of the largest colonial wars. Marked by the unified resistance of several different ethnic groups (who shared the Maji-Maji religion), and by its size – the colony was twice as large as Germany, and the war took place over an area the size of Germany. The Africans were fighting against their repression and the destruction of their native economy.
Landowners had rights over villagers, who were forced to work on their plantations in order to earn the money they needed to have in order to pay taxes. They destroyed cotton fields, were vastly outgunned, and the Germans pursued a scorched earth policy, which led to the death of some 75,000 to 300,000 Africans. But hunger also made the
surviving women less fertile – about 25% reduced fertility.
