Revolution of 1820 in Piedmont (3 jul 1820 ano – 29 jul 1820 ano)

Descrição:

Similarly, in 1820 Piedmont, people established a revolutionary government in Alessandria out of anger at Victor Emmanuel I’s reactionary policies (and were spurred on by events in Naples). A mutiny by the army in Turin, Piedmont’s capital, caused Victor Emmanuel to abdicate. Liberals looked to Charles Albert, second in line to the throne, to be their new leader. Unfortunately, Charles Felix (first in line) ended up intervening, issuing a statement denouncing Charles Albert and causing Charles Albert to flee. Charles Felix appealed to Metternich for aid and, in the battle of Novara in 1821, the revolutionaries were defeated, ending the revolution in Piedmont.
