Understanding: As Manifest Destiny motivated westward expansion in the
United States, the debate over slavery became fiercer as Northern and Southern states
grappled for political power. The conflicts over whether to allow slavery in the new
Western states led to bloody conflicts such as the Mexican-American War and Bleeding
Kansas, and eventually led to the Civil War when the South seceded to preserve slavery.





Enduring understanding Peroid 6:
One of the causes of the Civil war was slavery, northerners saw Slavery as inhumane in the south and wanted its end, Southerners refused due to there agricultural labor force was centered around slavery and its removal would be detrimental. Another cause of the Civl war was sectionalism most southeners did not want to pledge loyalty to the entire U.S only to a state. And another factor was the seccesion of varius states from the Union which ignited the civil war.
