Frederick William I, nicknamed the Soldier King, was attached to military life. He eliminated the last traces of parliamentary estates and local self-government. He truly established Prussian absolutism and transformed Prussia into a military state. Under his rule, the Prussian army was the best in Europe. Forced conscription was declared lifelong in 1713, and in 1733 it was ordered that all Prussian men undergo military training and serve as reservists in the army. Junkers were enlisted to lead army.
