Song Dynasty (1 jan 960 ano – 1 jan 1276 ano)
Descrição:
The Song dynasty was one of China's golden ages, lasting between 960 to 1279 CE. During this time, international trade flourished with the silk road and southern seaports.
Many new inventions were conceived while others from the past were perfected. The song invented gunpowder, a magnetic compass, paper money, printing, and they also discovered tea. Other things such as hydraulic engineering, canal and bridge building, traditional medicine, acupuncture, and building of large sea vessels were all improved or perfected.
A great philosopher named Zhu Xi created a new type of confucianism, neo confucianism, by integrating other philosophical ideas while also trying to recapture the old confucianism of the past.
While the Song dynasty was great, due to the existence of many outside rivals and threats many scholars of the Song dynasty developed an inward looking strategy to believe that only the Chinese were capable of greatness. Because of this, many “outside” influences such as buddhism were purged during the Song dynasty and Confucianism and Taoism had a resurgence.
