The Cherokee War of 1776 encompassed the entirety of the Cherokee nation. Cherokee Indians, along with small parties of Loyalists, began, on July 1st, a series of raids along the backcountry killing and burning at will. The raids were to have been done in conjunction with the British attack on Charles Town in an effort to split Patriot defense forces. The campaign covered a large area so the point indicates the center of the general area of the campaign.
