The Vietnam War was an armed conflict between communist rebels of the North and the democratic South. It was a long and costly war and would be a scandal under the Johnson and Kennedy administration for lying to the American public about the situation of the war.

President Richard Nixon would withdraw U.S. troops from South Vietnam, abandoning the democratic South to fall to the communist North. Vietnam would eventually become ruled in communism under Ho Chi Minh.
