Similar to the New Deal, President Linden B. Johnson established a series of legislation regarding poverty, jobs, immigration, etc. and wanted to use his power as the president to be an active member of American society. Through the reform programs, Johnson used his "Great Society" plan to expand executive power and was involved in the Civil Rights Act.
