OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) is an intergovernmental organization consisting of Algeria, Angola, Congo, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, IR Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. The group was brought together to effectively create an oligopoly for the oil market. These countries
controlled the majority of the world's oil reserves. OPEC was created to coordinate and consolidate the policies about oil production and output involving its member nations. It promised a stable oil market that offers petroleum supplies that are both efficient and economic. OPEC is still operational today and is responsible for providing oil to most of the nations of the world.
