- Bahadur Shah of Gujarat took the help of the Portuguese in conflict with Humayun by ceding him the island of Bassein in 1534
- Diu and Bassein came under control
- Da Cunha also attempted to increase Portuguese influence in Bengal by settling Portuguese nationals in Hooghly
