After taking North Africa the Allies began to move to southern France and pushed through Italy to knock another one of Germany's allies out of the war, and encourage Germany to shift their troops from France to Southern Europe.It was hard fight to take Italy, but in the end they partially succeeded by Mussolini's government falling and him attempting to escape to Germany. Italy's replacement government would join the Allies, but then replacement German troops flooded Rome and this battle would go on until 1944, postponing peace by nearly a year, and the Russians would remember this when they all met to discuss peace in the end.
