Moai on Platform (Ahu)
1100-1600 CE (Pacific) (1 jan 1100 ano – 1 jan 1600 ano)
Descrição:
- From the island of Rapa Nui (Easter Island)
- Statues were made of volcanic tuff that and its base was made of basalt which was mixed with the ashes of an ancestor
- Depicted an abstract human figure with great emphasis on the head, with exaggerated facial features and a rather large head. Some moai wear topknots, which look like hats, and used to have coral eyes.
- Meant to honor high ranking and founding members of the island of Rapa Nui while also showing how powerful and deep in tradition some islands were.
