Greece joins the Eu in 1981
Portugal and Spain join the Eu in 1986.

These three countries all were previously dictatorships (Greece --> Military Junta, Portugal --> Salazar, Spain --> Franco) which, of course, were inward-oriented (autarky) and even if they wanted to join the EEC, they wouldn't meet the Copenhagen Requirements.
