Throughout the 30 years from 795 to 825 AD, the Vikings attacked Iona Abbey, one of the oldest Christian religious centres in Western Europe, 4 times. The raids occurred in 795 AD, 802 AD, 806 AD and 825 AD. The most violent of these attacks being the one that took place in 806 AD where 68 monks were massacred by the shore at Martyr’s Bay.
