Sir Ernest Shackleton is known for his Expedition to Antarctica on the 5th of November because he and some of his crew survived the impossible being stranded for 497 days, they ran out of food and still survived. Their ship got stuck and to travel to the closest place, they travelled more than 1,300 km.
