The Korean war started with skirmishes on the border because the countries want to unify but with their type of government. In reality, the North Korea started this war to conquer more land. The Americans entered the war since they thought it was a war against forces of international communism. Over 5 million lives were lost and in July 1953, the war came to a stalemate. 

The Korean war was also called the lost war because of the lack of effort the US gave compared to other wars. 2 years later, in 1953, a new boundary was created near the 38th Parallel and South Korea received 1500 miles of land along with a 2-mile demilitarized zone that is still in effect till date.
