African Americans fought in great numbers in WWII. They said they were fighting a two front war which they called the Double V. They were fighting racism abroad and at home.

Also, as war industry jobs opened up, African Americans moved to cities and competed with whites for jobs and housing. This resulted in 240 riots across the U.S.
