John Brown's Raid at Harpers Ferry (16 out 1859 ano – 18 out 1859 ano)

Descrição:

In 1859, John Brown led a slave uprising in the Northern state of Virginia attacking the federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry, the United States armory. He originally planned on stealing arms from the arsenal and giving them to slaves residing in Virginia, however, troops captured the band of revolting slaves after two days of siege. Brown and six of his followers were convicted of treason and hanged. Southerners considered this event to be proof of the North’s intentions of using slave revolts to defeat the South. Northerners did not approve of such violence from the revolts, but later on anti-slavery northerners did praise Brown’s effort towards the freeing of slaves.
