Factory Towns and Women Workers (1 jan 1825 ano – 1 jan 1837 ano)

Descrição:

Investors and manufacturers created factory towns in which young girls worked in factories in the New England countryside. An example of such a factory town was the Mill Town in Lowell Massachusetts. Farm families sent their daughters to the mills in order to contribute to family finances and save money for the clothes and linens required for married live. These factory jobs also provided an alternative to marriage for young girls and provided them with some leisure freedom as they could attend lectures, and concerts.
