President Reagan ensured that his policies aligned with the New Right and Christian Right's social agenda. The Christian Right blamed liberalism for a decline in family values and their solutions was a renewed focus on conservative Christian principles. The Christian Right tried to remove evolution and sex education from schools and to bring prayer back into schools. It stepped up its opposition to abortion rights and reproductive rights by demanding limits on reproductive rights. Although the Christian Right did not succeed in overturning Roe v. Wade, it did succeed in defeating the Equal Rights Amendment.
