Johannes Brahms (1 jan 1833 ano – 1 jan 1897 ano)
Descrição:
Nationality: German
As a child, he developed a love for the music of Bach, Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. He also had a lifelong taste for folk and popular music, and was especially fond of the Hungarian Gypsy style, using it in many compositions. Schumann's critical praise of him in 1853 helped to launch his career and secure him a publisher, and he had gotten close enough with the Schumann family to help out when Robert was institutionalized. Despite numerous love interests, he chose to remain his bachelor for his entire life. For the last decades of his life, he traveled widely as a conductor, performing mostly his own works, and was awarded numerous honors. By this time he was making a handsome and sustainable living as a composer.
In contrast to Wagner, Brahms had a reputation as a musical conservative, and frequently used earlier features in his compositions. He also revived and added relevance to the symphony, a genre largely untouched as Beethoven was thought to have generally perfected it.
