 Pandyas visited by Marco Polo, Ibn Battuta, Abdulla Wassaf
 Ruled from Pandyamandalam or Thenmandalam
 They controlled parts of Sri Lanka
Aspects

 Kayalpattinam was most important port. Had Arab and Chinese ships
 Jatavarman Sundara Pandyan I brought entire Tamil region under control – horses played a major role in
their victory

 Fight between Vira Pandyan and brother Sundara Pandyan. SP takes refuge from Alauddin Khilji. This
invited Malik Kafur to the south
 The empire got divided. Muhammad bin Tughlaq invaded the territories

 Pandyas dominated parts of South India till defeat by Cholas in 10th century. They revived in 11th century
