Graffiti was a way to advertise yourself by tagging your street name on walls, signs, benches and so on. Gangs too would graffiti their gang name as a way to say that this was their turf. Graffiti was back then unwanted by the adults. They didn't appreciate it the same way we do today. They wanted to remove all graffiti which made it a lot harder for young people to make a lasting impression with graffiti to the local area.
