It is a historical term referring to the period when Balhae coexisted with Silla in the southern Korean peninsula after the founding of Balhae in the north of Manchuria and the Maritime Provinces in 698. In the year 900, the southern country Silla began to break down. In 926, the northern province of Bohai was destroyed by the Liao Dynasty, and its meaning was totally lost. Some have used the term Unified Silla (Unified Silla Era). Since the establishment of Silla, Silla has never unified the neighboring countries or regions that can give historical homogeneity. Even the Goguryeo and Balhae, most of the territories dominated by northern Silla have never been dominated, and saying unified is wrong. This is a period which affects modern Korea because Korea is almost united.
