Descrição:

Cause: raise revenue to help lower the military costs of protecting the American colonies during a huge debt from the French and Indian War.

Effect: increased enforcement of smuggling laws but disrupted the economy of Americans by increasing costs of imported items and reduced exports to non-British markets.
