Nullification Crisis (19 maio 1828 ano – 15 mar 1833 ano)
Descrição:
A high protective tariff ( or tax ) was signed into law by the US government. South Carolinians - specifically John C Calhoun strongly disagreed with the high tariffs and felt that they targeted the south unfairly. South Carolina nullified the federal law, calling it unconstitutional until a "force bill" was threatened which could bring the national army into the state to make sure the laws followed. A compromise took place. South Carolina would pay the tax if the US government lowered the tax. The US government would not send troops if South Carolina agreed to pay this lower tax.
