Descrição:

New York authorized a short, voluntary prayer at the beginning of the school day. A group of people opposed the prayer claiming it violated the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment and the New York Court of Appeals rejected their argument. The Supreme Court decided that the prayer violated the amendment and even if it wasn't required or specific to a religion it still violated it. It created the idea that state (school) and religion are separated even further.
