Son of Charles I and Henrietta Maria of France.
Married Anne Hyde on 3 September 1660 and had eight children. Anne was ill for 15 months before her death and never recovered from the birth of her last child, Catherine. Suffering from breast cancer at the time, Anne died on 31 March 1671.
Married Mary of Modena on 21 November 1673 and had seven children.
James II was deposed during the Glorious Revolution after three years on the throne.
