Allied military leader: Lieutenant General Mark Clark was appointed to command the 15th Army Group
Location: Sicily, Italy and southern Italy
Summary: The Italian Campaign started off with the Allied capture of Sicily, Italy and then a series of beach landings and land battles. Rather than being focused on the fight on German soil, Hitler was determined to stop the Allies in Italy which resulted in the battle know as: "Bloody Anzio".
Significance: The Italian Campaign was very significant because it resulted in one of the hardest battle the Allies encountered and because it contributed to the downfall of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini.
