- General Douglas MacArthur was put in command of defeated Japan
- 1,100 Japanese from the previous prime minister Hideki Tojo were arrested as well as 7, including Tojo, were sentenced to death
- MacArthur reshaped Japan's economy by implementing free-market practices that led to allowed a necessary economic recovery. As well as improving Japan's government allowing women suffrage and guaranteeing basic freedoms
- Citizens in America and Japan were grateful for MacArthur's work, Japan's constitution is still named the MacArthur Constitution to reflect his success
