Ars Nova (1 jan 1310 ano – 1 jan 1370 ano)

Descrição:

Ars Nova was a new rhythmically focused style inaugurated by Vitry. It allowed imperfect measure divisions (duple instead of triple) and divided semibreves into minims. Some didn't like the encroachment of the new and 'imperfect' style on the old style. The ars nova also had a greater prominence of imperfect consonances such as thirds and sixths (but parallel perfects were still popular). The difficult to pin down Ars Subtilior was more subtle than the Ars Nova and for cultivated listeners.
