Carlo Gesualdo (1 jan 1566 ano – 1 jan 1613 ano)
Descrição:
Gesualdo was the Prince of Venosa and Count of Conza (in Southern Italy). He brutally murdered his first wife and her lover for adultery. He remarried, but deteriorated into an eventual isolation and severe depression. It was in his self-imposed isolation that he composed his most chromatic and progressive works. His madrigals are extremely expressive and chromatic, completely dedicated to text painting and pushing the genre to its tonal limits. He employs nearly violent harmonic and rhythmic changes and contrast with an extreme obsession over text painting.
