Antonio de Cabezón (1 jan 1510 ano – 1 jan 1566 ano)

Descrição:

He was a Spanish composer born completely blind. However, because he was also born into a prominent musical background, he ultimately became sponsored by the Spanish royal family. Although Cabezón was blind, it can be assumed that he was held to the same standards as other musicians of his time. A very skilled court organist in addition to composer, he gained the title of musical educator for Prince Felipe of Spain by age 28. Cabezón was perhaps best known for his tientos which form a “significant contribution to the development of instrumental music” in his time. A tiento was an improvisatory-style piece that often featured imitation, akin to the sixteenth-century fugue.
