Anglo-Saxon Britain (1 jan 450 ano – 14 out 1066 ano)

Descrição:

From about 410 AD the majority of Romans had left the British Isles after more than three centuries of occupation. Britain was left weak, populated with thousands of towns, villages and farms all now having to defend themselves against attacks from Germanic barbarians. These Romano-British people soon split up into various small kingdoms based on tribal identities.

It was not long after however, that these Britons experienced waves of migrations of Germanic people coming from what is now Denmark, Northern Germany, and the Netherlands. Some of these people were known as Angles, which eventually lead to a large portion of Britain to be called England. The majority of these people, though, where called Saxons and over a relatively short period of time, these Germanic tribes swamped England and Wales. The indigenous Britons were assimilated and generally lived alongside the Saxons absorbing some aspects of their culture. From 450 AD, Britain had entered the Anglo-Saxon period.
