The dairy industry expanded very fast in Wisconsin. This is because many of the farmers that came to Wisconsin were from New York, which back then was the leading dairy producers. These farmers brought their skills. Even though it was difficult to make, they still made it. Cheese was made more because it would last longer than butter. In the 1870s, organizations were made to promote the leaders of the growing Wisconsin cheese industry and to overcome farmer opposition to the cheese industry. The most famous cheese industry was the Wisconsin Dairyman’s Association. This was found in Watertown in 1872. This industry also provided other ways to make cheese, meetings, and education. When German and Scandinavian immigrants came over they were quickly able to adopt the ways of dairying. This was profitable for them as just coming into the country. This helped Wisconsin become best known for Swiss Cheese. By 1915 Wisconsin had become the highest diary producers in the nation.
