Descrição:
Date: March 1861 - April 15 1865
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th U.S. President, was a leader who was successful in prosecuting the Civil War to protect the nation. He was against slavery; he helped with the passage of the 13th Amendment, which ultimately abolished slavery. Only a few months before taking office, South Carolina seceded from the Union, and all southern states soon followed suit; this led to the beginning of the Civil War. Following the Battle of Antietam, he announced his Emancipation Proclamation, granting freedom to slaves, prior to the end of the war. On April 14, 1865, Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Boothe at Ford's Theatre; he died the next day.
