Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was an Italian Renaissance sculptor, painter, architect, and poet who made a big impact and influence on the evolution of Western art. He first began to become well known in his 20s for his sculptures of the Pietà (1499) and David (1501) but is most recognized for the ceiling frescoes of the Sistine Chapel (1508–12).
